From the 3rd to the 5th of March, members of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Research Group (GICCG for its acronym in Spanish) and professors of biomedicine, computing and psychology, in our branch campus in Quito, attended a training session on the ActiChamp system for the registration of electroencephalography (EEG), infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and learned about the experimental design platform of the new Laboratory of Neurosciences that will be inaugurated in May 2020.

This laboratory will operate in Quito and will strengthen research processes, interdisciplinary work and improve learning processes through the union of artificial intelligence and neuroscience. "The aim of this laboratory is to work on the waves of neural activity applied to the educational environment, as well as to develop applications on learning through knowledge of people's cognitive processes," said Fr. Rómulo Sanmartín, professor and coordinator of the GICCg .

The training is carried out in two phases, the theoretical one, where professors learn about the techniques for the analysis of the neural activity and the practice phase where they will know the functioning of the equipment, its use, record of practices, analysis of the information and carry out experiments. The training is led by Ivo Leiva and Nicolaz Florez, consultants from Braim Latam, the company in charge of the laboratory installation.

The lab will comply with certain characteristics, such as being soundproofed, without interference from radio waves or cell phones and having two rooms, one to carry out experiments and the other to control and monitor results.
