The university community learned more about the health benefits of Tai Chi and Chi Kung thanks to a talk led by instructor Hugo Duque. These are holistic disciplines of Chinese origin that integrate body movement and concentration through conscious breathing. Duque highlighted that Tai Chi is a martial art that teaches fighting techniques while Chi Kung is the medical part of Tai Chi that focuses on proper breathing.

Tai means movement; Chi is energy and Kung is spirituality. Both disciplines integrate physical, emotional and mental capacities; the energetic encounter can relax, heal and revitalize life. "I taught my students abdominal breathing, and I always recommend focusing on a target, visualizing it, and then execute the conduction of energy", he said. Duque explained that three elements are required for Tai Chi: posture, breathing and relaxation. "Having a state of harmony is what translates into good health, we need to become aware of our body and improve our breathing to achieve a balance," he said.

One of the benefits provided by these techniques is the improvement of balance in each movement which will help reduce stress, anxiety or mood; they also impact aerobic capacity, increase energy and develop a synchrony between body and mind,", he stated. The session was broadcast by @CulturaUPS.
