4th International Congress on Interculturality

Our branch campus in Quito will hold the 4th International Congress on Interculturality It will be held online from the 15th to the 17th of December. 

UPS organizes this event since it is part of Catholic Universities from Latin America and the Caribbean (RED ODUCAL). The participants were: Juan Cárdenas, UPS president; María Sol Villagómez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Luis Francisco Ramírez, president of ODUCAL; Andrés Barba, secretary of ODUCAL, Patricia Campos, president of Universidad Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo, Peru and coordinator of the intercultural network of ODUCAL; Ricardo Salas, from the ODUCAL research network; Freddy Simbaña, teacher and academic coordinator of the congress; researchers Sebastián Granda, director of the Intercultural Bilingual Education undergraduate program; Jessica Villamar and Daniela Ochoa.
UPS president Juan Cardenas stated that this congress is biannual and recalled the first in 2015 in the city of Chiclayo, Peru, organized by Universidad Santo Toribio de Mogrobejo, the second was in Temuco, Chile and organized by Universidad Católica de Temuco in 2017 and the third in Medellín, Colombia in 2019.

"This year, UPS organizes this event which seeks to become a space for dialogue, where we can articulate concepts and experiences around interculturality and knowledge, in order to incorporate interculturality in common grounds in our daily and academic practices. For the university it is a challenge which we are happy to face".

Maria Sol Villagomez explained the academic importance that this congress has for our university. "Interculturality is an important contribution and constant challenge for academia and participating institutions; 

The president of ODUCAL welcomed attendees and thanked the work carried out by everyone in the organization during the last six years. "The ODUCAL network has three principles: it is active, constant and productive", he said. He stressed the importance of the concept of interculturality in Latin America and thanked UPS for hosting this congress.

Barba, secretary of the network, recalled the active participation of UPS in several activities and highlighted that there are 114 universities that are part of this network, many of which contribute to the intercultural issue. Campos stressed that today virtual education gives the possibility of generating new knowledge that allows us to reach a deeper analysis of the intercultural reality in which we live.
