Curriculum Adjustment for Specialized Educational Services in the Subject of Language Literature

During an event held at the Ministry of Education in Quito, they official presented the “Curriculum Adjustment for Specialized Educational Services in the Subject of Language Literature”. This document is the result of joint work between professors from the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS) in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca and staff from the Ministry. The aim is to strengthen learning at the High School, Elementary and Middle School levels.

 

The objective is to guarantee that all students have access to the Curriculum of the Compulsory Education Levels of Ecuador, through adjustments for Specialized Education. Therefore, they developed an approach based on Spiral Learning Progressions which responds to the needs and realities of students in specialized education institutions.

 

Claudia Sánchez, Undersecretary of Specialized and Inclusive Education, and Patricio Moreno, Undersecretary of Education of the Metropolitan District of Quito attended the event.


María Sol Villagómez, vice-president of  our branch campus in Quito; Tatiana Rosero, head of the community engagement department; Miriam Gallego and Raúl Lara, from the UNESCO Chair of Technologies for inclusive education; Daniel Llanos, director of the Education Area in Quito; and Ana María Narváez, director of the Basic and Early Education programs were there on behalf of UPS. Teachers and students from specialized education institutions in zone 9 of the Metropolitan District of Quito also attended.

 

Raúl Lara, assistant of the UNESCO Chair of Technologies for Educational Inclusion, stressed process behind this curricular adjustment: “We had sessions with teachers to rescue all the learning and experiences of specialized education. We analyzed the objectives, the curricular blocks to be able to create the points that guide the adjustment and performance criteria skills, to analyze how to convert them into sequences and progressions, generating learning at a personal, family, school and community level.  


 
He also stressed that "this tool is the result of joint work with the Ministry of Education; the skills, experience and knowledge of specialized education teachers has been extremely valuable."


 
María Sol Villagómez, stressed the importance of inclusive education, stating that: “Education is conceived as a human and fundamental right that guarantees not only the entry and presence of students in an educational institution, but also universal access and equal participation in quality education for all.” 


 
Finally, Claudia Sánchez stressed the relevance of this curricular adjustment for education in the country: “Today we are witnessing an important milestone. Having this document will allow us to strengthen and improve educational quality of our children with timely and relevant tools. The preparation of these documents represents recognition of the existing diversity of our students, especially students with disabilities.”

 

She announced that “this tool will be implemented in 135 educational institutions nationwide”. This curricular adjustment marks significant progress in building a more equitable and accessible educational system for all.
