The university's New Materials Research Group (GIMaT) presented its PGWood  project during a fair organized by the government in the district of Giron, in the province of Azuay on May 30th.

During the event, the Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas Espinel was pleased with the research conducted at UPS and said "government money is well invested", these projects will help change the country's production matrix.

The government has implemented a macro project aimed at changing the country's production matrix; it is a bank of ideas which collects projects from all over the country. The winning project will receive $50.000 from public funds to begin the industrialization process and enter the productive sector.

The aim of this fair was to present some of the best projects to the public, and so the university's GIMaT research group was invited by the Ecuadorian Vice President to participate.
PGWood is an environmentally friendly project which seeks to solve current problems in society through students' creativity.

UPS-Cuenca professor and researcher Luis López said this is the first project that has obtained external financing to turn an idea into a product that will be taken to an industrial scale with the support of the government.

UPS-Cuenca professors Jorge Fajardo, Luis Garzón and Edwin Carrasquero also attended the fair and explained the Project.
