On August 20th, the Ecuadorian Assessment, Accreditation and Higher Education Quality Assurance Council (CEAACES, in Spanish) announced that UPS- Quito and UPS-Guayaquil are part of the universities that have passed the evaluations. The council acknowledged the improvements carried out at UPS after being advised to do so in 2013.

Some of the improvements made at the university are that now over 80% of professors hold a master's or doctorate degree, we have better equipped labs, better infrastructure, libraries, and updated software. UPS President Javier Herran said that "This is the result of the effort made by everyone at the university, the process was led by the Plannning, Evaluation and Accreditation Department as well as the significant work done by Viviana Montalvo, UPS-Quito Vice President, and Andres Bayolo, UPS-Guayaquil Vice President.

The next step is to accredit all the majors at the university, and is therefore working hard. The university will open two new majors in Quito and Guayaquil: Automotive Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, as well as four new master degree programs which will be held in UPS- Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca.

UPS President Javier Herran said that the biggest challenge for UPS is to achieve academic and organizational quality and still make the university economically accessible to all students. "Changes mean significant investments for all higher education institutions in the country, and UPS is not afraid of changing and progressing in order to fulfill its mission which is to educate good Christians and honest citizens with academic excellence willing to change reality" he said.
