Lorena Campo, a professor of applied anthropology, published her article titled "Estudio paralelo del suicidio en el Ecuador como proceso ritual de significación" in the Fundamental and Oriented Anthropology Research Group journal (GRAFO) from Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. The journal publishes research results, scientific debates and discussions.

The article's abstract points out that "Although death is a generalized state, it is not free of conflict and differences when it is narrated socially. This article presents how the phenomenon of suicide can be studied from the meaning given to it from the perspective of those involved within a process of significance".

Campo believes that the self-inflicted death causes various collective reactions, according to the person who interprets it and the cultural context, understanding explanatory contrasts. He notes that "it is a topic discussed from different disciplines, geographies and temporalities. In the specific case of Ecuador, there are two perspectives to address this issue, through anthropology and psychology, in an attempt to understand more of the multiple causes that affect an important part of the young population of this South American country.
