The opening ceremony of the International Congress on Research, Scientific Production and University Publishing (CIIPE) took place on Wednesday, October 28th in the university's Carlos Crespi Theater. 

UPS President Javier Herrán welcomed all the participants and officially inaugurated the event. He said that the congress will allow participants to share their experiences with renowned international experts on topics which are fundamental for the university. Then, Juan Pablo Salgado, Head of Research at UPS, spoke about research and innovation at UPS. 

The opening ceremony ended with UPS-Quito Vice President Jose Juncosa's speech where he talked about the fortieth anniversary of the Abya Yala – UPS Publishing House which he founded. And to celebrate, participants received a small ceramics pot, a symbol of the publishing house which is considered to be one of the most renowned in Latin America. 

At the Congress there will be national and international speakers such as: Umberto Margiotta, Pierluigi Ellerani and Lucio Poma (Italy), Isidro Aguillo, Feliz De Moyá and Ana Afonso Gallegos (Spain), Abel Paker and Amanda Ramalho (Brazil), Juan Felipe Cordova and Mario Rios (Colombia), Francisco Salgado, Raul Benavides and Carlos Rojas (Ecuador)
