UPS professor Diego Chacon Troya, a member of the Energy Research Group at UPS-Cuenca, was awarded the "Best paper award" in ROPEC 2015 which was held in the city of Ixtapa, Mexico. 

This event was held during the fall IEEE Congress on Energy, Electronics and Computing with the support of: Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia, Universidad de Colima, Instituto Tecnológico de la Costa Grande and División Centro Occidente de la Comisión Federal de Electricidad.

Diego Chacon presented his paper "Modeling a Permanent Magnet Generator and its Controller for a Wind Turbine System". Professor Chacon explained how he implemented the modeling of a power generation system based on wind power and considering wind speed, the flow of the permanent magnet machine, the topology of the controller and the load required by the electrical system as input variables.
