Our branch campus in Cuenca created the Ecuadorian Network of Female Scientists (REMCI for its acronym in Spanish) whose aim is to present the challenges and the work carried out by women in academia. The Network is in charge of Jennifer Yepez, professor and researcher, and is supported by university officials.

REMCI is a non-partisan, independent, horizontal and non-profit network of Ecuadorian women who are active in academia and research in Ecuador and the world. Since March 2017, REMCI has been part of the Ecuadorian Network of Universities and Polytechnic Schools for Research and Postgraduate Studies (REDU for its acronym in Spanish). In addition, since February 2021 REMCI is the headquarters of the Ecuador chapter of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).

The main objective of this Network is to contribute to the sustainable development of Ecuador through science, technology and innovation created and promoted by Ecuadorian female scientists. Additionally, the Network seeks to promote the scientific work of Ecuadorian women, increase their participation in academia and decision-making, improve their access to public and private funding for research projects, and encourage scientific exchange.

REMCI in our branch campus in Cuenca is currently made up by 23 members: Jennifer Yépez, María Fernanda Guevara, Paola Ingavélez, Beatriz Angamarca, Elizabeth Almeida, Mariela Cerrada, Olena Naiduk, Yaroslava Robles, Virna Salazar, Elizabeth Narea, María Leguízamo, Diana Rodríguez, Victoria Jara, Ana Villa, Andrea Bermeo, Paola Duque, Ana Parra, Mayra Sucozhañay, Mónica Espadero, Bertha Tacuri, María Eugenia Barros, Ivonne Álvarez and Gioconda Beltrán.
