Community radio stations in Ecuador

"In Ecuador the contribution made by the media is not valued", this is how Gioconda Beltran, director of the university's communication major in Cuenca summarized the message of her paper titled "Community radio stations in Ecuador in the light of the 2008 Constitution" which she presented during the Latin American and Caribbean Forum on Popular and Community Communication and the International Congress "COMUNICOLOGIA DEL SUR", organized by the International Center of Higher Education Studies of Communication for Latin America held in Quito from June 28th – 30th.
The research on the situation of community radio stations in the country is part of Professor Beltran's studies in her doctoral program on Social Sciences at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellín, Colombia. Her doctoral study, called "Community media in Ecuador. A critical reflection based on the 2008 Constitution," aims to analyze the impact of community radio stations in Ecuador in the processes of participation and democracy, regarding the 2008 Ecuadorian Constitution
The study carried out by Beltran focuses on the visibility that community radio stations in Ecuador should have based on the redistribution of frequencies stated by the Organic Law of Communication. Such research is very useful for both the media business sector and for the public role of communication in our society and teaching at UPS. "The research is related to my teaching in various aspects. On the one hand, Discourse Analysis and Educommunication and on the other hand it allows to visualize and evaluate other forms of communication, beyond the purely massive," she said.
