"Communication for peace and nonviolence"

The university's communication major in Quito is currently holding a continuing education course on communication for peace and nonviolence which is also being organized by the International Press Agency and is aimed at students, alumni and professors.
The aim of this course, which began on June 25th, is to provide conceptual and practical methods to apply an approach of peace in communication which is a contribution in the field of communication in the country. Some of the topics are communication and gender, communication and social basis, communication and integration, communication and social movements, communication and migration, communication and politics, communication and interculturality, communication and spirituality.
The speakers are Tony Robinson (UK), Nelsy Lizarazo (Colombia), Jenny Infante (Spain), Oliver Turquet and Giorgio Shultz (Italy), Javier Tolcachier, Mariano Quiroga and Iván Novotny (Argentina), Gabriela Amaya (Spain), Tomás Hirsc (Chile), José Rivadeneyra and Madeleine Jones (Peru).
The course will end on July 30th and participants must have created some communication project. For Professor Nina Aguiar, coordinator, "students will have basis on the approach of peace and non-violence, they will have an opinion on issues that seem natural but are violent. They will also reflect on how to perform this profession within the academy, in the media and in everyday life."
The course is also supported by UPS professors Narcisa Medranda and Nicolas Dousdebés and has been possible thanks to the agreement between UPS and Pressenza, an agency that promotes communication from a humanistic perspective and is made up of volunteers with experience in communication, social activism, as well as cultural and academic fields.
