The university's Safety, Health and Environment Department in Cuenca organized the first brigades' competition whose aim was to strengthen the skills of the members of the brigades. The competition was held in Cuenca's fire department training school, there were two teams that were made up by 18 people each.

The organizers said the overall objective is to provide participants the motivation needed to successfully complete the tests and acquire team working skills as well as techniques that can save lives.

The tests were based on the application of safety protocols and simulated emergency situations in a circuit created with different scenarios such as fires, evacuation of vulnerable staff, physical work and others.

The scores of each test were based on the time needed to successfully complete each one, this competition was won by the team led by Fabian Marca. For the scoring they also considered the protocol regarding treatment to people with disabilities.
