UPS professors attended the "World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering" held in Toronto Canada to present their paper titled " Intelligent System for Identification of patients in Healthcare"; the conference was indexed to SCOPUS and SPRINGER. The paper was written by Alexandra Vasquez, Monica Huerta (UPS professor), Giovanni Sagbay (UPS professor), Roger Clotet, Ricardo Gonzalez, David Rivas and Jose Pirrone. Professor Giovanni Sagbay was in charge of doing the presentation.

The paper explains that inappropriate identification of patients in health centers is still a common problem that has created unfavorable situations. The project presents a system to counteract this problem, but before presenting the new system the researchers studied the existing identification and monitoring systems in several health centers. NFC technology was chosen as part of the solution due to its availability in cell phones, its safety features, speed, low cost and easiness in the exchange of data. The confidentiality of the patient's information is guaranteed through authentication profiles in order to access the systems and the use of SSL and HTTPS protocols.

UPS professors were pleased with their participation and the people's response to their project.
