Mauricio Suarez and Cristian Castañeda work in the university's library for the blind in Quito; in October they attended a conference titled "Taller subregional de la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI) sobre la implementación efectiva del Tratado de Marrakech in Buenos Aires Argentina to share their experiences in the library. The conference was organized the the World intellectual property organization and the Dirección Nacional de Derecho del Autor (DNDA) from Argentina. Some of the topics of the conference were to create a catalogue that facilitates the search of existing material, the recovery of obsolete analogical material that inhibit access and creation of a cloud data storage that could be used to share information with other accredited institutions.

Suarez shared his experiences in the library regarding the services it offers, such as digitalization and the distribution of academic material. He said that it is an inclusive place that offers training in the use of the Braille system, digitalization of books in works, pdf and rtf, voice audio and lending books.

For Castañeda, "there are universities that help people with visual impairment, but their digital repository has few books. UPS has 15,000 books and 3,000 audios", he said.
The Marrakech agreement was approved on June 27th, 2013 in Morocco and its aim is to create a commitment about intellectual property and copyrights for the access of people with disabilities. The agreement aims at making people aware of the challenges people with disabilities have to face to have access to books, education, social integration and take part in social and cultural activities.

Ecuador signed this agreement, controlled by the WIPO, in April 2016 which says the country must adopt internal laws on intellectual property and copyright in its legislation.
