The "Carneras" women's soccer team presented its team for the National Championship
The UPS women's soccer team, "Carneras", presented the uniforms they will use for the National Championship that will begin on December 1st. The team's first matches will take place in the city of Santa Elena against "Talleres Emanuel", "Ñañas" and ESPUCE.
During the ceremony, held in the municipality of Cuenca, Sofia Sanchez, president of the club, recalled how 4 years ago a group of 12 women decided to leave prejudice aside and turn women's soccer in Cuenca into a reality through a team called "Carneras".
Sanchez explained that currently the Carneras soccer club works with about 100 girls and adolescents, starting from the age of 4, including mothers who make a great effort and show their love for the game by never missing a training session.
Fransisco Abril, on behalf of the Mayor of Cuenca, said "We feel proud to sponsor a team that will surely have great results and become national champions and possible even classify to play in the Copa Libertadores de America.
Edission Mendez, the coach of the Carneras women's soccer team, said: "5 years ago we did something that nobody else did, we believed in women's soccer, in their talent, a hidden talent which today has already made history and represents our city, institution, fans and a group of sponsors who support the development of the team and believe in their talent".
