The local government of Gualaceo, which is celebrating 194 years of becoming an independent canton, awarded UPS professor Blas Garzón who is from Gualaceo a special recognition for being the first person from this canton to become a member of the Ecuadorian National Academy of History since 2016.

The ceremony was attended by officials from Gualaceo, Juan Diego Bustos, Mayor; Jorge Nuñez Sanchez, director of the National Academy of History, representatives of public and private institutions and other members of the Academy. 

During this event, the local government of Gualaceo and the National Academy of History signed an agreement to carry out research on this canton and the region. 

The Director of the Academy and members, committed themselves to carrying out research, disseminating and publishing processes on this historic canton, and invited new generations to be involved in these processes of revitalization of history, memory and the heritage that is needed not only in this city, but in the entire Ecuadorian territory
