'WaWa Yachai' wins regional IEEE competition

“WaWa Yachai” is a project that seeks to help children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It was created by María del Cisne Ortega Cabrera and Dennys Báez, students majoring in Electronics and Automation in our branch campus in Cuenca, The project won the Regional Pitch Competition of IEEE Region 9.

 

More than 30 groups from several universities in Latin America and the Caribbean participated in this competition. The aim of the project is to provide an interactive and accessible educational tool: modular cubes equipped with advanced electronics that help cognitive development through play. It measures motor skills and response times, providing real-time data to support children's attention, memory and concentration.

 

Our students had to overcome several stages in the competition; they first won at the national level and qualified for the semifinal to on Thursday, November 14 via zoom at the Regional Pitch Competition, organized by IEEE Young Professional in Panama where they will face 11 classified teams. If they win first place, they will qualify to the final to be held in Chicago, United States.


 
This project already won first place in Latin America and the Caribbean and second place at the IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems held in Singapore. The project was led by teachers: Fernando Guerrero, Luis Serpa and Osmani Ordóñez.
