On April 13, UPS professors, students and officials celebrated 10 years of "Alteridad" Journal, a scientific publication that addresses issues of education and pedagogy. Alteridad has been published since 2005 twice a year and it started with the purpose of spreading Ecuadorian and Latin American production of knowledge in this field.

The event was attended by Javier Herrán, UPS president, José Juncosa, UPS-Quito Vice President, Jaime Padilla, editor of the journal, Sebastian Granda, director of the faculty of ntercultural Bilingual Education, Ana Maria Narvaez, director of the Education faculty and professors Maria Sol Villagomez, Armando Romero and Nelson Raza.
The university president highlighted how the journal is produced by and for students and professors of UPS, and that it centered on Salesian pedagogy. He also said that the journal will now be indexed to Redalyc and is working on being indexed to Scopus in the future.

The founder of the journal, Armando Romero, said that this publication arose from the need to implement the principles of the Salesian educational project and in order to become a scenario from where academic and scientific production of the Education Faculty would spread

He recalled that after evaluating several names, he finally chose "Alteridad" for the richness and symbolism of the term because it implies putting yourself in  another person's position, alternating one's own perspectives with that of others.

Jaime Padilla, current editor of the journal, focused his speech on the evolution of Alteridad, mentioning some of its strengths, such as its credibility and its team of scientific reviewers.

He stressed that the biggest challenge is to sustain an increase in peer reviewers and the automation of management processes and publishing in open access systems (Open Journal System) that UPS has implemented all its scientific journals since 2015.
