The university’s “La Granja” journal first appeared in January 2002, it is the first Ecuadorian scientific journal indexed to Scopus. The journal publishes papers related to life sciences, the environment, biology, agriculture and sustainable development.
The university celebrated the journal’s 20th anniversary in “El Giron” campus; the celebration was attended by UPS president Juan Cardenas, the general vice president Fernando Pesantez, the head of research Juan Pablo Salgado, the vice president of our branch campus in Quito Maria Sol Villagomez, the vice president of our branch campus in Guayaquil Raul Alvarez, the general editor Luis Alvarez, the editor Sheila Serrano, and the coeditor Ignacio de los Rios, as well as professors, authors and researchers.
UPS president Juan Cardenas stated: “Celebrating the 20th anniversary of “La Granja” journal means celebrating life itself, we should be thankful for the journey and the possibility to present science and life. La Granja began as support for the Agricultural undergraduate program, but over time it extended its work to other fields. Publishing is knowing, making visible, approaching and recognizing. Science must show solidarity and this what UPS has done in the field of scientific publications”.
Gabriela Cueva, representative of the secretariat of higher education, science and technology- SENESCYT- congratulated the work carried out by the journal in the field of research. Alvarez stressed the knowledge acquired by the editorial team throughout the years, which has allowed the journal to position itself as a benchmark in our country.
De Los Rios, coeditor, said “La Granja” is one of the most consulted journals worldwide. “We must take care of our common home, Earth, and solve its problems by working with people and creating responsible relationships between man and nature.”
Serrano, editor, said: “I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this journal during these 20 years, mentors, colleagues, researchers and more, there are also many things that have been done in order to get to this moment. There are a total of 18 associated editors, 16 guest editors of especial issues, 45 members of the scientific committee, researchers around the world who have advised us, 188 scientific reviewers who guarantee the quality of our publications and over 200 authors.” She also thanked Juan Cardenas and former UPS president Javier Herran for always supporting the journal.
