Thanks to an agreement signed between Universidad Politecnica Salesiana and Consejo de Participación Ciudadana y Control Social – CPCCS (Citizen Participation and Social Control Council), since 2016 both institutions have carried out several community involvement projects such as: talks to students majoring in communication and occupational psychology, a campaign to collect books with the Reading and Writing Center and support to people who were affected by the earthquake that hit Ecuador in April 2016.

One project in particular was carried out by a group of students majoring in communication in the university's branch campus in Cuenca. They heard talks from the CPCCS, whose aim was to create two brigades in charge of monitoring information from the decentralized governments of Chordeleg and Gualaceo as part of student practicums.

Father Herrán was in charge of giving students their certificates, during his talk he acknowledged the effort of students and professors who were involved in the projects and encouraged them to apply the knowledge acquired in the university.

In order to analyze a new project, Juan Peña Aguirre, member of the CPCCS, visited the university's branch campus in Cuenca and showed his interest in getting the computing major to develop a computer tool to facilitate the management of the institution.

Rene Ávila, acting vice president in the university's branch campus in Cuenca, said the university is willing to participate in this type of projects. Blas Garzon Vera, person responsible of the project for UPS, said these spaces give students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired. He also said they will have new projects in the fields of research and community involvement.
