Conferences on Civil Engineering

Representatives of the civil engineering undergraduate program and the American Concrete Institute ACI Student Chapter of Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS) organized several conferences in our branch campus in Quito. The aim of the event was to encourage further research in topics related to reinforced concrete structures, concrete quality and industrial floors.
The first conference was given by Miguel Manya, manager of the Civil Engineering construction company Build and Hidro, the topic was "Risk Management in Quito Metro". He spoke about the importance of implementing a methodology that optimizes the multiple constructive and non-constructive aspects that affect the development of buildings in the city, such as the Quito metro.
Institutions and expert companies in civil and concrete engineering such as Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Pichincha, el Instituto Ecuatoriano del Cemento y del Hormigón, Sika Ecuatoriana S.A., HOLCIM and Unión Andina de Cementos were part of this event.
During the event, the new board of the American Concrete Institute Student Chapter of UPS was signed in; Karen Jiménez, president and Alex Cevallos, vice president. "We seek to improve the perspective of students and encourage them to get involved in research of civil engineering and be part of the student chapters," said Jiménez.
Gabriela Soria, director of the civil engineering undergraduate program, congratulated and encouraged students to carry out academic activities that allow them to know and update knowledge regarding the operation of construction facilities.
