Course on Emergency Brigades

Our branch campus in Cuenca held a closing ceremony for the training course on Emergency Brigades. There were 250 participants; students, professors and representatives from several schools and companies who were part of the emergency brigades. 

 

The ceremony was held in the university theater and was attended by university officials, representatives from the Fire Dpt., representatives from risk management and the Red Cross. The course was promoted by the Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Physical Activity and Sports Pedagogy programs, along with the KAIZEN student group at UPS. The goal is to create a culture of risk prevention and strengthen response capabilities in emergencies in educational and work settings. 


 
It was a 40 hour training course divided into theory and practice. The participating brigades were from the following institutions: Unidad Educativa Asunción, Colegio Benigno Malo, Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Continental General Tyre Andina, Plásticos Rival, Graiman, Universidad Católica de Cuenca and Universidad Politécnica Salesiana.


 
The course was created with the help of the Fire Department, the Risk Management Department and the Red Cross; it included topics such as first aid, evacuation, putting out fires, rescue, risk evaluation and management.

 

As part of the closing ceremony, there was an inter-institutional competition, where teams tested their knowledge and skills in simulated emergency scenarios. Experts in the field evaluated the teams' technical execution and coordination.

 

In the educational institutions category, first place went to the Rosa de Jesús Cordero Educational Unit, with a time of 00:35:25, while in the business category, the Continental Tire Andina team took the victory, recording a time of 00:23:04. This significant training session concluded with the presentation of trophies, medals, and certificates, reaffirming UPS Cuenca's commitment to comprehensive training, risk management, and institutional security, promoting collaborative work between academia, the productive sector, and first-responder agencies, for the benefit of the entire community.

 

In the educational institutions category, first place went to Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, with a time of 00:35:25. In the business category, Continental Tire Andina won first place by recording a time of 00:23:04. The team received trophies, medals, and certificates; UPS is committed to comprehensive training, risk management, and institutional safety, it promotes collaborative work between academia, the productive sector, and emergency agencies, for the benefit of the entire community.
