First Regional Meeting on Education and Interculturality

Students majoring in early and basic education in our branch campus in Guayaquil took part in the First Regional Meeting on Education and Interculturality which was organized by the Cultural Diversity Museum from Colegio Americano de Guayaquil with the support from the Iberoamerican Institute of Natural and Cultural Heritage.
During this meeting, participants presented initiatives developed by students, teachers and people linked to intercultural projects in cultural spaces and non-formal education in the Ecuadorian coast.
The event featured an introductory talk, round tables and workshops on several topics. There were topics related to identity, recognition of cultural diversity, valuation of intangible heritage, strengthening of social dialogue, and others.
Pedro González, UPS professor, began his presentation regarding the study of cultural and social diversity at the university, then education students presented topics such as: education for peace; identity education; education for non-discrimination; moral education; and environmental education.
"Participation in the event contributes to our students' education and puts into practice the academic content being studied," stated González. On the other hand, Susana Pombo, director of the undergraduate programs said: "We are proud of our students' participation, these inclusive experiences and practices strengthen their knowledge".
The meeting ended with a talk from Jorge Albuja, organizer of the event, as well as from the authorities of Colegio Americano de Guayaquil.
