Human-Machine Interaction that connects technology and inclusion
The multimedia design and electronics and automation majors in our branch campus in Cuenca held a Meeting of Experiences in Human-Machine Interaction, an academic event that brought together students, professors and special guests to strengthen the exchange of knowledge in this field.
The aim of the event was to have an academic talk and find cooperation between higher education institutions working on the development of Human-Machine Interaction (HMI), a key field for technological innovation with social impact.
During the presentations, Otto Parra, coordinator of the Network of Universities and Polytechnic Schools for Research and Graduate Studies (REDU), presented the goals and scope of this national network, which brings together researchers committed to advancing HMI in Ecuador.
Juan Carlos Cobos, professor from Universidad de Cuenca, presented advances of the NEXUS Project, which is aimed at strengthening academic and scientific cooperation in this field. Otto Parra led the conference “User-Centered Design with Artificial Intelligence: New Frontiers in Human-Machine Interaction”, he addressed the challenges and opportunities offered by integrating AI into human-centered interface design.
David Castillo, from Universidad Tecnológica Indoamérica (Ambato) presented his research on Artificial Vision and explained that robotics can contribute to treating visual deficiencies and improving people’s lives.
Janio Jadan spoke about his experience in the creation of inclusive interfaces for people with disabilities, especially aimed at children and people with Down Sindrome. He stressed the potential of accessible technologies for inclusion.
Besides the presentations, participants saw an exhibition of robots developed by member universities of the HMI-REDU network, demonstrating the high level of innovation and comprehensive training.
This academic event shows UPS's commitment to research, technology, and education of professionals capable of facing the challenges of an increasingly connected world.
