Our branch campus in Quito held a meeting for the inauguration of the new representatives of the Students’ Union for the 2023 – 2025 period. The meeting was led by Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Viviana Montalvo, president of the electoral court; Silva Gomez, director of the student wellbeing department; Father Jaime Chela, director of the university’s pastoral department; and Valeria Andrade, outgoing president of the students’ union.

Maria Sol Villagomez spoke about the friendly relationship with the outgoing members of the students’ union and how they worked together to solve issues regarding the pandemic and the national strike in 2022. She asked the new members of the students’ union to be positive and productive leaders, and to understand that their classmates have entrusted them.

Valeria Andrade presented a report of the activities they have carried out from October 2021 to July 2023. She explained they have worked to build a more inclusive academic environment and that they organized many activities with the help of university officials. She encouraged the new members to dream big and fight for what they believe is right. At the end of her speech, she awarded recognition plaques to university officials and the other outgoing members.

Silvia Gomez thanked the outgoing members for all the activities they carried out and their commitment. Father Jaime Chela was in charge of making the new student representatives take oath; he wished them the best of luck. Nathaly Moreira, the new students’ union president, thanked her team and everyone else for their time, effort and support. “The university is diverse and full of talent and potential. We will use our strengths to face adversities”, she said.
