The university's branch campus in Cuenca held a special ceremony for the new board members of the IEEE student branch in Cuenca who are taking office. The aim of the IEEE student branch is to strengthen technological innovation, research and encourage the participation of students and professors. 

Father Javier Herran, university president, stressed that the mission of IEEE is to promote creativity, development, integration and to use technological advances that will benefit humanity and help solve current problems in society. 

Pedro Cornejo, new president of the IEEE student branch in Cuenca, said the group is made up of volunteers who are willing to work in benefit of the university and develop technology to improve society. He stated that one of his goals is to bring the IEEE branch campuses in the university's three branch campuses closer together. 

During the ceremony, Victor Uguña, a student, awarded Father Javier Herran the prize the IEEE student branch received for being a model in the region as one of the best student branches in Latin America and the Caribbean. 

  Finally, the outgoing members of the IEEE student branch board awarded Cesar Vasquez, former vice president of the university's campus in Cuenca, a recognition plaque for all his support during his time in office.
