Play: “Más allá de la cruz”

Cuenca, miércoles 16 abril 2025

To commemorate Easter, our branch campus in Cuenca presented the play “Más Allá de la Cruz”. The cast was made up by teachers, students and administrative staff; they were in charge of bringing characters to life and showing the most significant moments of Jesus Christ’s life. The university presented the play for the university community at 11am and for the general public at 7:30pm.

The play doesn't simply tell the story of crucifixion; it offers an insight into faith and the human condition. It explores how Jesus' death marks not only the end of his life, but also the beginning of an inner and collective judgment. The play addresses the personal dilemmas of biblical characters: Mary's heartbreaking pain, Judas's despair, Peter's inner conflict, Caiaphas' ambition, and the presence of Satan, who acts as a voice that must be confronted by everyone.

The play invites viewers to ask: What comes after suffering? Is the cross the end or the beginning of something greater? The play is a mirror of the internal struggle we all face between guilt, redemption, and faith.

Beyond the spiritual message, the play demonstrates the value of art as a tool for transformation and reflection. As a university, we recognize and celebrate the commitment of all those who made this project possible. When art emerges from within our community, it not only entertains but also educates, mobilizes, and builds identity.

The play provided the following lesson: suffering is not the end, but the beginning of a path of hope. The cross does not close a story; it opens a new possibility of rebirth
