Students majoring in environmental engineering in our branch campus in Cuenca presented their research on land pollution and ways to reduce this problem through scientific posters.

Some of the ways to mitigate the problem is based on the use of macro, meso and indigenous microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and riketsias whose metabolism allows to disintegrate, transform, capture and eliminate soil contaminants such as lead, cadmium, selenium, tellurium, hydrocarbons and others.

Macro, meso and microflora act as plants that trap heavy metals, purify air and water, and above all help capture carbon. This entire process benefits the environment and helps fight against climate change.

The research presented through the scientific posters is a contribution to the university’s research groups such as the Biotechnology and Environment Research Group and the Communication, Education and Environment Research Group.
