On March 21 and 22, professors from the pedagogy, intercultural education and philosophy majors attended a course on teaching methods which was led by Astrid Vandormael, master in pedagogy from The Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

The course was about methodologies that can be used to develop students' skills and competencies through creative and autonomous reasoning. This approach has four components: learning tasks, support information, procedural information and practice.

The course was both theoretical and practical and so participants had to solve problems according to the theoretical information that was given. Elke Vanwildemeersch and Vahid Masrour, educational consultants from VVOB, were also there to accompany Astrid Vandormael, in her process of becoming a professor.

The VVOB Foundation is an institution that works to improve the quality of education in several countries. It works for the Flemish Government and the Federal government of Belgium.
Maria Sol Villagomez, UPS professor, is Astrid Vandormael's tutor in Ecuador. She said during that this process they were able to conduct research on intercultural diversity in five schools: Don Bosco de la Tola y Kennedy, Santa Marianita de Otavalo, Monseñor César Antonio Mosquera de la comunidad Agato, Otavalo and Bright School de Quito, with the help of two pedagogy students, Martha Navas and Stephany Aldaz.
