Music and dance at the 2014 UPS Cultural “Caravana”
 
The 2014 UPS Cultural “Caravana” started on Tuesday, June 3rd in Quito’s Giron and Sur campuses. This event has been held every five years since UPS was founded, the goal is to bring students who are part of cultural groups in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca together to show their artistic skills.
 
UPS president Javier Herrán inaugurated this Salesian art and cultural party. He congratulated the Communications and Cultural department for their initiative and encouraged students to stop being mere spectators and create their own cultural spaces.
 
These were the groups that participated in Giron campus: Choir and Contemporary Dance (Quito); Choir and the group “Katharsis” with the play “Nadie puede saberlo” (Guayaquil); the Compañía de Teatro from Cuenca with the play “Mi sala es una locura”; and the Vocal Ensemble and the group Taichi, both from Quito.
 
And these are the groups that participated in Sur campus: Modern dance, Frecuencia, and Shark from Guayaquil. The Ecuadorian dance group, Saiko, Rednecks, Phronesis, and the urban dance group from Quito. Folk dance and modern dance groups from Cuenca.
 
In the afternoon, the Cutlural “Caravana” moved to Kennedy campus. These were the groups that performed there: Ecuadorian dance groups, contemporary dance groups, and modern dance groups from Quito. The modern dance group and the folk dance group from Cuenca. And finally the modern dance group from Guayaquil.
 
The groups performed in Guayaquil on Wednesday and in Cuenca on Thursday. On Friday, students and their instructors got together in Cuenca before returning to their hometown on Saturday.
