The university's branch campus in Guayaquil held a cultural event titled "Salesian youth, proud of their cultural identity" where students from different undergraduate programs remembered the lives of Ecuadorian writers and musicians who have left a legacy in our society.
The event was organized by the Reading and Writing Center (CLEA) in Guayaquil; the aim was to strengthen our cultural identity and sense of belonging, "we are constantly organizing these events to encourage students to participate", said Professor Jacinto Vega.
During the activity, students presented the life and work of Ecuadorian writers whose poems were put to music by national composers, making them songs of the national repertoire which were played by Salesian students, the songs were: "Vasija de barro", "El alma en los labios", "El aguacate", "Pasional", "Invernal", "Romance de la niña Guayaquileña", and others.
There were also presentations of poems by the lyric composer José María Egas. "The most representative songs of the national pentagram were selected for this event and professors chose the students with the best skills for singing and declamation," said Marjorie Salgado, coordinator of the CLEA in Guayaquil.
Salgado said that prior to the event students received explanations and motivational talks about our identity such as values, traditions, symbols, beliefs, fundamentals of our roots and nationality.
