Students from our branch campus in Cuenca won first place in the "IoT Smart Solutions" Competition
Students majoring in mechatronics and electronics and automation in our branch campus in Cuenca won first place in the Technology Fair “Digital Innovation” which was part of the competition IoT Smart Solutions, organized by ETAPA EP as part of the International Telecommunications Day.
The awards ceremony was attended by professors from different universities in the city who took part in the Technology Fair. The categories in the competition were: Smart Cities and 4.0 Industry; the aim was to present innovative solutions to technology development and improvement of quality of life.
In the Industry 4.0 category, Mechatronics students Nicole Calle, Andy Flores, Diego Íñiguez, Paula Martínez, and their professor Diego Chacón stood out with their project titled "Smart Management of Industrial Wastewater Using Industry 4.0 Technologies for the City of Cuenca." This project monitors heavy metals in the city's rivers, in order to detect contamination generated by industrial waste. The team won first place, demonstrating innovation, commitment, and its contribution to sustainable solutions for the city.
In the Smart Cities category, Electronics and Automation students Sebastián Ramos, Ariel Criollo, David Parra, David Llangari, Roberth Velasco, and their professor Juan Inga won first place with their project "Integrated Monitoring and Guidance System for Visitors in Protected Natural Areas Using LoRa and Digital Identification Technologies." This project integrates advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and Big Data to efficiently manage basic services, from transportation and energy to public health and safety. These technologies enable data-driven decision-making, generating resilient and sustainable environments.
The Municipality of Cuenca acknowledged our university for its commitment, effort, and contribution to academic knowledge, showing its active participation in academic projects.
