Books on interculturality

The Abya Yala publishing house will make 300 books about interculturality available (free access), 170 have already been published in the university's digital repository Digital Repository. The aim of course is to socialize the production of books on this topic.

The founder of the Abya Yala Center, Father Juan Bottasso, said "this is an important decision since many of the printed editions run out, so now the electronic version will allow us to disseminate knowledge on culture from around the world, especially Ecuador and Latin America".

The books were chosen by Jose Juncosa, UPS-Quito Vice President and director of the Abya Yala Publishing House, who used the following three criteria: agreements with the authors for free access, contribution to interculturality and an approach to historical topics. Another aspect which was also considered was how the books contribute to strengthening research for the intercultural education, local development and anthropology majors.

The UPS-Quito Vice President said interculturality at UPS is transcendent and that it can be seen in its lines of research, in its majors, in the publishing house, the library which has over 20,000 books on indigenous and afro communities.

The books are available in PDF with OCR software. Students, professors and the overall public can now find studies on ethnography, mythology, rituals of indigenous communities and others.
