The Free Software Academic Group (GASOL for its acronym in Spanish) which belongs to the computer engineering undergraduate program in the university's branch campus in Guayaquil held an event titled "Learning to program", a project aimed at encouraging boys, girls, and adolescents to get involved in the world of programming.

Participants learned about some tools such as code.org, app inventor, tools of free software and private software which enabled them acquire some skills in programming. "All children and adolescents should have equal opportunities regardless their socioeconomic condition. Therefore, GASOL visited public schools that do not have internet or computers and showed students how ICT's work, thus giving everyone the opportunity they deserve" said Alice Naranjo, coordinator of GASOL.

GASOL visited the following schools:

• Unidad Educativa Domingo Savio

• Unidad Educativa Francisco Falquéz Ampuero

• Unidad Educativa Guido Garay

• Unidad Educativa Manuel Elicio Flor

• Unidad Educativa Victoria Pérez

• Liceo los Delfines

The activities carried out by UPS students enable participants to develop skills in organization, teamwork and entrepreneurship. "Every boy, girl and adolescent has the right to explore new technologies and make a decision about their lives and profession", said Naranjo.
