The journal "Sophia" celebrated its 15th anniversary

The university celebrated the 15th anniversary of its Journal "Sophia: Colección de Filosofia de la Educación" by holding a meeting that was attended by editors, national and international authors, and university officials. This is the only journal of philosophy in Ecuador and one of the few in Latin America. The general editor of the journal is Floralba Aguilar.
UPS president Juan Cardenas welcomed all the attendees and congratulated everyone who makes the journal possible. He stressed the importance of the journal by saying it is required by education systems because it communicated knowledge. "It is a demonstration of a connection between society, teaching and research…".
Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito, highlighted the work, effort and commitment of everyone who makes up the "Sophia" journal. She spoke about the history of the journal and stated that "it is published every six months since 2006, it is refereed, peer reviewed, doble blind review and it is of open access".
Luis Alvarez, general editor of UPS, spoke about the university's six indexed journals and congratulated everyone who makes each publication possible. "Thanks to you, we have created networks and we work alongside science and society".
Jose Touriñan, from Universidad Santiago de Compostela, Spain, commented issue #30 of the journal "Filosofia de las ciencias cognitivas y educación". He stated that cognitive is essential to know why there is knowledge, the means and what we know. "People have to mature their knowledge, educate it and use it for their own life, cognitive is used to know when we are actors and authors of our life projects."
Fr. Rómulo Sanmartín, UPS researcher professor, referred to the first issue published in 2006. "Fifteen years later, Sophia articulates research experience with cultural pedagogy, defined categories; today it is a program, a pedagogy software, it is the intelligence that provides solutions to educational events ".
Dolores Vélez, coordinator of Postgraduate and Research at Universidad Autonoma, España de Durango (UNES), spoke about issue #26 "Biología y educación: la neroeducación", and stressed that it promotes interdisciplinarity, integration and response to the need for knowledge. "There is no doubt that "Sophia" is quality and integrity and a Latin American benchmark", she said.
Eloy Maya Pérez, research - professor at Universidad de Guanajuato, México, spoke of issue #29 "El pensamiento complejo y las ciencias de la complejidad en la educación"; while María Elena Arriagada, professor at Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE), Chile, and a member of the International Council of Reviewers of the journal "Sophia", pointed out that "As editors we must be up to date, we improve the writing, it gives us impetus for the research and we contribute to the development of knowledge through the review of works. The journal is a testimony of good academic production, rigor and an example of collaboration ".
Finally, Floralba Aguilar stated that the journal responds to an eagerness to create knowledge, such as issues 1 to 10. "In the eleventh issue we began to see basic and formal guidelines with a view of the evaluation processes of index and databases, making issue #12 indexed to Latindex. Today we have 60 indexes, two associate editors, 12 international co-editors, 60 members of the editorial and scientific council, 208 international and national reviewers. However, it is necessary to adapt, continuously improve, discover and project new goals.
