The language institute presented UPS TALKS

Cuenca, lunes 21 julio 2025

The language institute in our branch campus in Cuenca held the second edition of "UPS TALKS", an event that emulates the original format of TED talks. The aim of this event is that participants develop communication skills in English through dynamic presentations.

Students from different majors and English levels (A1, A2, B1) presented innovative ideas, such as the one presented by Daniel Toapanta, student majoring in biotechnology, who spoke about caring for the environment.

Beyond improving their language proficiency, the event strengthened skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, effective storytelling, and the use of visual aids. Students also worked on body language, public speaking confidence, and argumentation skills—key skills for their professional development.

Magno Vivar, director of the Language Institute, recalled that the first edition had presentations in English, Kichwa, and Portuguese. Now, in order to disseminate the impact of this event, there are plans to invite schools and universities in Cuenca to future editions, which will promote an even more enriching intercultural exchange. New dates will be announced soon so that more people can join.
