The "Paréntesis" theater group presented the play "Las Nubes"

In May, the “Paréntesis” theater group from our branch campus in Quito held 8 shows and presented the play “Las nubes”, written by Aristophanes and directed by professor Juan Pablo Acosta. This classic story refers to the sophists and other characters in Athens at the end of the 5th century.
The director stated that this work of classical Greek comedy was chosen because Aristophanes is the forerunner of this genre and the representative of ancient Greek comedy; it is the first time that it is presented in Ecuador and “It is a fresh story, with easy-to-understand words; The visual and aesthetic part is also highlighted in elements such as the costumes, lights and colors of the stage”.
The play took eight months to prepare; first, we analyzed the story, the context of the work, the playwright, the sophists and Socrates, as well as the beginnings and characteristics of ancient comedy.
The cast was made up of Carlos Varela, Paúl Almeida, Damián Salazar, César Carrasco, Nicole Mediavilla, Katherine Falcon, Erika Guerrero, Leonardo Mena, David Dueñas, Michelle Quijije, Karla Moncayo, Xavier Sanabria and Wladimir Peña; 90% of them students and graduates of this university.
