On April 8, UPS professors presented the results of their research project on water consumption in Pesillo—Imbabura to officials of Pedro Moncayo, Otavalo, Antonio Ante and Ibarra cantons. The project was carried out by the GRICAM research group and the community involvement department. UPS-Quito Vice President Jose Juncosa, professor Ronnie Lizano, coordinator of GRICAM, and Dr. Narcisa Requelme attended the event.

The results will help officials and users make better decisions to efficiently manage water. The project contains technological, social, economic and environmental information as well as strengths and weaknesses in water management in communities.

The geographic information systems laboratory identified and referenced the water systems and provided officials with the maps. With this information they will be able to make better decisions to improve management.

UPS will soon hold training programs on water for human consumption aimed at people from this sector and will also begin new research.
