Thanks to the mediation provided by the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference, the participation of Juan Cardenas, President of Universidad Politécnica Salesiana; Fernando Ponce, President of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador PUCE; Digna Erazo, representative of Misioneras Lauritas; Mauricio Lopez, representative of the Latin American Episcopal Council; the president of the indigenous nationalities (CONAIE), and other social movements; an agreement of peace was signed to end the national strike which began on June 13th. 

 

The agreement was signed by Leonidas Iza, president of CONAIE; Eustaquio Tuala, president of FEINE; Gary Espinoza, president of FENOCIN; Fransisco Jimenez, government minister, on behalf of the president of Ecuador; and Alfredo Espinoza, vice president of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference. 


 
Part of the agreement states that there will be working sessions to discuss social demands; there will be an evaluation in 90 days. The agreement states that the national strike is over and peace shall return to our territory. The moderator was David de la Torre, general secretary of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference. 

 

UPS, according to its university autonomy, as well as its mission, vision and institutional values, sheltered indigenous communities of the highlands and the east, including people of Zápara, Andúa, Huaorani, Shuar, Achuar, Amazonian Quichua, Shiwiar. the communities of Tigua, Zumbahua, Saraguro, Colta, Guangaje, Mulaló, Mulalillo, and others. About 4,500 people were taken care of, especially women, children and older adults
