Students majoring in communication and multimedia design took part in a wall painting competition organized by the university’s pastoral department in our branch campus in Guayaquil. The winner was Daniela Cobos, student majoring in multimedia design. The work was supervised by professor Gabriel Peña Zapatier.

The work reflects our salesian spirit and the nature of our patron saint San Juan Bosco, which is to educate with love. The wall painting reflects a mother with her child and a book in the middle. The background is decorated with roses, flowers, hearts and stars.

Daniela Cobos said that she was inspired by her parents and remembered that it is important to take advantage of academic opportunities in any field. “My mother says I should keep on learning in order to achieve my goals. One never stops learning and it is great to be able to transmit a message through art”, she said.

“Talent stamped on walls can improve brotherhood in the university community. It can encourage the appearance of new artists and people who are passionate for art”, said Gabriel Peña, graphic designer and audiovisual producer who guided students with the wall painting.

Jose Pelaez, coordinator of the project, said that this wall painting competition shows salesian identity beyond the classroom. “We want to encourage our students’ creativity through art as well as transmit our salesian philosophy”, he said.
