Our branch campus in Guayaquil held the 9th edition of the International Congress on Science, Technology and Innovation for Society (CITIS). An event where the national and international academic community presented their research results in the field of engineering, especially those that provide solutions to society’s modern problems.

CITIS 2023 brought together experts from Spain, the United States, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Switzerland, who provided their knowledge for the development of society through science and technology. Lenin Cevallos, research coordinator in our branch campus in Guayaquil, explained the objectives of the congress, "the purpose of the congress was to disseminate knowledge of academic activities that have been developed in the university community, as well as to promote synergy between professionals and researchers, as well as provide an opportunity for cultural scientific reflection.”

There were over 500 people who took part in the Congress. Pedro Varas Bruzzone, product manager at Rocktruck (Chile), spoke about the importance of organizing academic congresses which focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. “It is extremely important to discuss entrepreneurship in Latin America and that entrepreneurs share their knowledge on how to start a business.”

In this ninth edition, the topics were related to the applications and perspectives on the state of the art and relevant future developments on intelligent technologies applied in cyber-physical systems, autonomous systems, sensor networks, control systems, energy systems, automation systems, biological systems, vehicular networks, connected vehicles, and others.

For Michelle Arévalo, an Environmental Engineering student, CITIS represented a communication platform aimed at covering the theoretical and practical problems with the greatest impact in modern Society. “As students, we can talk and learn about our professions and interact with other people”, she said.
