To commemorate the International Girls in Information and Communication Technologies Day, the Women in Engineering Group (WIE) from our branch campus in Quito held several workshops on electronic circuits using Snap Circuits tool.

Volunteers from the WIE Group in Quito led the course for 108 students from Unidad Educativa Municipal Quitumbe who seek to learn more about the fascinating world of technology. The use of Snap Circuits Kits was sponsored by IEEE WIE – Ecuador.

Quitumbe is projected as a school for future engineers, who will have the possibility of transforming the world, through majors related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), considered as fields that promote the development of more inclusive and sustainable societies.

Sheila Serrano, advisor of IEEE WIE UPS-Quito, explained the importance of these majors in a world in constant scientific and technological growth, taking into account that there is a deficit of highly specialized professionals in STEM in the world, where only 12% are women. "It is imperative to motivate and support the participation of more women in science and technology, girls are the first step. The love of science and technology is created when they are little," she said.

The celebration of this day is an initiative of the United Nations International Telecommunications Union, whose vision is a future where every girl has the power to innovate and lead in the technological field.
