The industrial and production engineering undergraduate program in our branch campus in Cuenca organized a competition on “Emergency Brigades” for high schools and other institutions. The participating high schools were: Técnico Salesiano, Julio María Matovelle, Militar Abdón Calderón and Benigno Malo. The institutions were: Continental, Universidad de Cuenca, Petroecuador – Austrogas, and UPS. 

During the opening ceremony, a well-deserved recognition was awarded to the Fire Department of Cuenca for its invaluable work. After a demonstration by the firefighters, the competition began with the participation of Universidad de Cuenca and UPS, followed by different high schools and the participating companies.The teams had to face obstacles that were placed along the route outlined for the competition. 

This event was held to commemorate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, celebrated every April 28.
 
The judges of the competition were Juan Ortiz, in charge of risk management for the education department, area 6; and Adrian Dominguez, representative of the Fire Department of Cuenca. 

The high school winner of the competition was Militar Abdon Calderon High School, second place was for Benigno Malo and third place for Tecnico Salesiano. In the institutions category, the winner was UPS, second place was Universidad de Cuenca and third place for Continental.
