Biotechnology students attended a workshop on intellectual property

On April 19, the Natural Resources Biotechnology major  at UPS-Quito, the Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI for its acronym in spanish) and the Dirección Nacional de Obtenciones Vegetales y Conocimientos Tradicionales, held the workshop titled "Intellectual Property and Plant Varieties ".

The purpose of this event was for students to learn more about the intellectual property system focused on the protection of plant varieties. The workshop was led by Wilson Usina , Paola and Paulina Llumiquinga Mosquera , representatives of IEPI and UPS professors Rosita Espinoza and Janss Beltran.

The main topics were the IP system , the management right of the breeder , the pillar of national agricultural development, tools used the breeder , and others. The workshop sought to encourage students to know and use these intellectual property tools when developing innovative products in the field of biotechnology
