The GIIMA research group presented their results during the first International Electronic Conference on Metabolomics
The Applied Mathematics Research Group (Grupo de Investigación Interdisciplinar en Matemática Aplicada GIIMA) from the university's branch in Guayaquil presented the paper "Reporter Metabolites Analysis From Inorganic Carbon Acclimation In Synechococcus Elongatus Pcc7942" during the first International Electronic Conference on Metabolomics that was held from the 1st to the 30th of November.
The paper, written by Julián Triana Dopico, Daniel Caamaño Gordillo, Christian Granda Añazco, Gustavo Quintero Cuero, Raúl Álvarez Gaule and Janet González Sotero, analyzes the profile of Synechococcus Elongatus Pcc7942 and studies the changes of the metabolites in the metabolic network of this microorganism.
"The results could be the starting point for inferences of possible maps of transcriptional regulation, as well as the evaluation of the capacities of the metabolic network of cyanobacteria," said Triana.
Synechococcus Elongatus is a marine photosynthetic cyanobateria, which helps fix carbon dioxide, and thereby mitigate the undesirable effects of global warming. This research could help make further decisions if we want to use this cyanobacteria to produce substances with high added value.
The online conference presented the latest research in the following fields: metabolomics of human diseases, applications of metabolomics in agriculture and industry, analytical techniques in metabolomics and metabolomics modeling.
For Triana, this research demonstrates the usefulness of mathematics that is learned in the first years of engineering in order to solve problems or generate knowledge that socially do not exist. "We are trying to produce new knowledge and disseminate it through scientific publications, this could encourage other members of the university community to write their own papers", he said.
This project will be published in the "Metabolites" journal and indexed to:
