The Open House
The biotechnology undergraduate program in Guayaquil held the First Series of Conferences on "Biotechnological innovation in Ecuador". The aim of the conferences were to present the latest scientific and technological advances in this field.
Participants, mostly students of biotechnology and environmental engineering learned more about:
- Biotechnology in the KUTUKU scientific station
- Perspectives of biotechnology in Ecuador's coastal region
- Biotechnology in the south of Ecuador
The topics were presented by Paco Noriega, Christian Larenas and Pablo Arevalo. "Biotechnology has great potential in Ecuador, we have many biological resources but still no products have been created by our undergraduate program and that's what we want", said Noriega, professor in Quito.
There was also an Open House where students from our branch campuses in Quito and Cuenca presented their projects such as bioadsorption, improvement of craft beer, in vitro plants and others. "These activities encourage students and help them learn more about their major", said Jose Luis Ballesteros, director of the undergraduate program.
