UPS is part of the University Network on Applied Anthropology

From the 24th to the 31st of March, Ligia Aurora Sierra Sosa, Xochitl Ballesteros Pérez and Thelma Sierra Sosa, representatives from Universidad de Quintana Roo (Mexico) met with anthropology professors from UPS's branch campus in Quito in order to coordinate the implementation of a Network of Universities in Applied Anthropology.
UPS professors Ruben Bravo (director de la carrera), Amparo Eguiguren, Alexandra Martínez, Patricio Guerrero, Laura Falceri, Romel Lara, Daniela Ochoa and Hernán Hermosa attended the meeting and during six days they had academic workshops on mexican anthropology with mexican specialists. There was also a virtual conference with representatives from the master's degree in Applied Anthropology in the University of North Texas, USA.
The network is made up by representatives from Universidad de Quintana Roo, UPS and the University of North Texas who are currently working on agreements that will broaden ties with other universities such as Universidade Federal do Amazonas (Manaos, Brazil)
The aims of this network are to create spaces to reflect on and research applied anthropology with universities that work in this field as well as mobility for professors among the universities that make up the network.
During the meeting they highlighted the background of the applied anthropology major in UPS, whose proposal is aimed at anthropological epistemologies from the South and social processes.
For Bravo, this is the first network on anthropology in the academic field; this field of study is related to social processes by considering that territories are places where anthropologists obtain ethnographic studies, projects with an intercultural approach based on the dialogue of knowledge, management of heritage and others.
