The automotive engineering undergraduate program in our branch campus in Guayaquil held an Open House to show attendees what they worked on as well as the operation of the laboratories.

The laboratories were implemented to promote alternative mobility through the optimization of internal combustion engines and the implementation of new electrical and hybrid systems, as well as an automotive design where students learn to design parts and perform prototyping, with a vision of implementing auto parts companies according to the demand of the local market.

Renato Fierro, director of the automotive engineering undergraduate program, said "we have shown the community the work we carry out thanks to the implementation of the laboratories, the aim is to suggest a form of sustainable mobility for the city of Guayaquil and the country. We want to use technology to develop new concepts on how use vehicles for urban mobility."

"For the 3D printing, I first had to design the prototype in a 3D software program, then I passed it on to another software where I generated the properties of my prototype and the material I would use to print it: The software tells me the printing time and resistance (according to the material); the objective of using the printer is to design prototypes of parts for some type of machinery that we cannot find in the market and then melt it", said Andree Schuldt, a second semester student, who was operating a 3D printer during the open house.

Katherine Muñoz, a fourth-year student of Automotive Engineering and one of the 19 women in this program, said: "Usually people think that automotive engineering is a program that only deals with cars, men and strength; and that is not the case, the program is much more than that, the subjects that have surprised me the most are aviation and naval equipment, which I plan to specialize in; that's why I invite girls and boys who want to join the experience of studying automotive engineering to come, the program is profitable in the short term.
