The UPS Ecology Club members, made up by students majoring in environmental engineering, participated in the reforestation marathon that took place on May 16th throughout the country. The aim of this event, which was organized by the National Reforestation Program and the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Environment, is the reforestation of 1,500 hectares in the country.

The marathon was also intended to set a new Guinness world record in reforestation; Ecuador managed to get over 35,000 people from 21 provinces to plant 400,000 plants in 1,500 hectares around the country.

The UPS Ecology Club starting planting trees at 7:30am in a place called Catequilla, in the district of San Antonio de Pichincha. This event which benefits the environment is just one of the initiatives of the Club, Juan Fransisco Arteaga, Coordinator of the Club, said that "helping to care for the environment encourages us to continue with our projects".
